A Corfu Babymoon

A Corfu Babymoon

As soon as I saw Villa Iriti in Rou, Corfu I knew this was the perfect destination to spend a few days relaxing before the arrival of our little one. It looked like the perfect natural retreat located in a spectacular, secluded setting high up in the hills overlooking Corfu’s North-east coastline. Being five months pregnant I must admit the idea of reaching the property in one piece did worry me, but the agent promised me the bumpy drive up the mountain would be worth it and she was certainly right.

Set in fragrant olive groves and wild flowers, the natural surroundings did not disappoint. The setting was out of this world and I knew I would never want to leave this place. In fact, I could quite easily have stayed and given birth here it was so peaceful and calm. The pool and gardens were breathtaking for a one bed villa with numerous corners and seating areas to relax and enjoy.

The inside of the property had been beautifully renovated and was spacious and light, full of unusual, quirky possessions such as the handmade Moroccan basin in the bathroom and the cosy wood burner in the sitting room for the cooler months.  The luxurious white bedroom was dreamy with a super-king bed and handmade mattress with doors opening onto a patio with sofas.

The incredible views and interiors filled me with inspiration and ideas and this place will always hold a very special place in my heart. This area of Corfu felt very untouched, wild and homely. We ventured down the mountain a few times to some local tavernas and to the small beaches and fresh market.

Our favourite spot which we visited a couple of times was Toula's on Agni beach, you can sit right beside the waters edge and watch the sunset over dinner. They serve the most delicious octopus and fresh fish and we loved the fragrant baked feta with fresh herbs, sesame and honey. But most nights my OH, bump and I would cook together in the villa, which had a fantastic selection of handmade pottery and dishes and we would sit out on the patio overlooking the sea, chatting and enjoying the peace and quiet.
